Lemons into Lemonade!

In the following months, new furniture was arriving in the house every week! How fun! Patrick would come home every day wondering what he'd find. I was drawing up designs with different carpenters, and essentially testing out who I would like to continue working with through NAFASI as a business for future clients as well! I found some great people to work with, and of course some hiccups along the way too... You saw my pretty apothecary being made on last week's blog . They delivered it without finishing, as I requested, and just leveled everything out and added my apothecary pulls. I was thrilled with how it turned out!!  Then I shopped around for the best wood stains, and tried a few out. This stain is great, and I think it turned out really beautifully, but it was a hugeeeee pain to work with. It stains everything. EVERYTHING immediately. Including my hands and nails for 2 weeks. :/ My own fault for not using gloves. But that's pretty difficult to do to...

The Final Touches... Hopefully!

The granite was delivered... A day I was anticipating heavily. It seemed like all work was paused until that granite arrived. You can't put in the backsplash without the granite there, or call the electrician without the backsplash in since there's outlets over the tile, or work on the plumbing if the sink isn't in yet, or finish the final paint without everything else being done. So once the granite arrived, I thought it was smooth sailing! It was a little rougher than planned, but watch as we maneuver our way through the end.  Black granite, gorgeous! Polishing up those sides Cutout for the cement farmhouse sink I think I forgot to mention this a while ago, but I had a panic moment where I thought the granite and installer were coming the next day. I last minute thought, why wouldn't we put these amazing tiles extended into the bathroom? It would be such a shame! And put in a vanity with a granite top now that we have extra from the old back...

A Design Plan Directly Into Action!

In the last entry, I searched and found the tiles and cabinetry color that we would be using. Since I now had this information, when I went back home to Rubengera I was able to really put my interior design plan together, so I could make better decisions throughout the rest of the renovation. I knew the ceiling and floors were pretty light, so I had some room to go dark with walls. I also knew that in the Main House I wanted to get a little more sophisticated and neutral (a little more) than our Rubengera home, which was supposed to have a more tropical vacation feel. So I put a board together mostly for the Main House first. Check it out!  The floorplan is very open yet still cozy. And the color palette is more refined. Here is the visualization board for the main room as well. Here you can see in the living room area, I wanted a nice charcoal colored wall anchoring that space, and a very comfortable relaxed feeling sectional. Then in the kitchen using dark cabinetr...
