NAFASI THE BLOG

So I am realizing that as soon as we actually moved into our house after all of those renovations is when I completely abandoned all blogging on it! Sometimes you just a get so busy living that the blog gets pushed aside. However, now that our house is fully renovated and fully designed and decorated I have time to show you all the rest of the steps into getting our finished Kigali dream house! Let me go right back to where I left off in May 2018.... Throughout our first week of living in our new house, we had all of the construction materials removed,  (YES!) The tiles dug out, and re-cut correctly, New hardware on the cabinets, and plenty more! Once the backsplash, lower cabinetry and hardware were all finished, I was able to move on to my uppers!!!  Most importantly because we had to cover his monstrosity of electrical work in the kitchen, but also so I could have floating open shelving!!  This was the idea... They brought the cab...

I was extremely ecstatic to get our floors painted, and I cannot believe how good they look, and how unique our home now is. :) Once they were sufficiently dried, we were able to bring all of our stuff back in and set up our home!  While we were gone waiting for the floors to dry with our things on the front deck and hoping for draught, the rest of our larger furniture also arrived from Kigali! ...and sat on our deck outside for a weekend... BUT! We got it! Here is how the house is looking... Our Island! With the modern black metal stools! And shiny black floors! And Patrick using it just as intended :)  Our extra long, extra deep, extra big sofa (at Patrick's request!) It does smell a bit like skunk maybe from being outside that whole time... Anyone know how to get that out? Anyone know if there are skunks in Rwanda?  A few weeks prior Patrick and I went to Kigali to talk with Gervais, the carpenter who made our sofa, island, apothecary, and bathroom...

It's been so long! At this point today, our whole house is almost TOTALLY done!! I need to catch you all up quick! With all the work on the house, and trying to plan the wedding all before coming to the US in a week, I have not been keeping up wit the blog updates! So here goes.  Let's start with the stools. It all started a looooong time ago when I went to the fabric store for the first time. (I blogged about it here .) I saw this stool there, and it was metal. I don't know why I was stuck thinking stools had to be wood here. But they're metal all the time back home!  When I realized I could get creative with my stools, I did some internet searching and asked Patrick (from the maintenance team, my second favorite Patrick!) if it would be possible to make some stools in a new modern shape.
