Sip 'N Paint

Having all the space in the world now with our Kigali house has been wonderful for me getting back into painting. And luckily our new house needed artwork on the walls too!  While furniture had mostly all been ordered and renovations were done, now was the phase of thinking about art. We had a big blank wall in our kitchen, and a big open space above that apothecary in the entry too. So what better way to fix it than with a Sip 'N Paint date night at home for me and Patrick!  Now he is a very patient man. Not my painting style however. So he tackled the measuring, taping, and meticulous painting of lines in the pattern on the kitchen wall.  He had this vision of a very light faded pattern on that wall, almost unnoticeable. He then also came up with the idea to make it a strip of detail, instead of a whole cliche accent wall... Creative too! Meanwhile I had been dreaming up this painting of a woman with windblown hair covering her face, us...

The One We Chose...

If you read the last blog article, The Kigali House Hunt Tour , you would have seen the huge selection of houses we looked at before finally making a decision. It's funny hearing everyone's votes for which house they thought we picked! Most people guessed that we'd chosen the 2 Story house in Rugando- Sorry to disappoint! We did NOT go with this one!!! In the end, we wanted to be as close as possible to the action in Kimihurura, and we thought, we won't be interacting with the stubborn landlord very often anyways, right?! Plus I couldn't get over the stone wall and fireplace, and we just had our hearts set on the Original House. (If you're interested in the 2 Story however, we worked with a great realtor, Peter, from Plut Properties! I definitely recommend him, and this house !!) :) Here's the Original  House again: We were walking to this house , and dreaming about how pretty it is, when we met Jean Luc, a realtor at Forrest Jackson across the...

The Very Most Recent, Up To Date State of Everything.

There's still a little ways to go with bringing pieces back from the US, making some fixes to doors and lights, and making a few more custom pieces, but right now the house feels pretty darn good! This is the latest tour of our house before I leave for home. Enjoy! Welcome! Take a seat!  Come on in to the kitchen if you'd like... Sit back, we'll cook you up somethin'!  Bathroom's this way if you need it! Just take in the view. :) Thanks! Come again!  And now I'm off for D.C... Bye Rwanda!! I'll miss you. See you next time as a Mrs.! :):) Love, Teri

We Made it!

Well, we're here! What a wild ride. For the past month and a half Patrick and I have been preparing in all the ways we know how to put closure to our DC lives & livelihoods, and pack as much as we could into farewell parties, closing projects, and 7 overweight suitcases. All the while we have been planning our wedding in September too! I think that April was probably the busiest I've felt since the start of NAFASI when I would spend 12 hour work days figuring everything out. It is funny looking back at our DC April right now from my bed at 11:00 in the morning while leisurely writing a blog update and staring across rolling hills at Lake Kivu. The birds singing, cows mooing, nice breeze. I just started Party of Five season 1 on Netflix. ;) It sounds nice doesn't it? It's all I dreamed of while pulling my hair out trying to get work done last month! Yeah, I wish it were that easy. I worked straight through until the Friday that we got on the plane to l...
